MTN Group has appointed Ikenna Ikeme, currently General Manager of Regulatory Affairs at MTN Nigeria, as its new Executive for Group Regulatory Affairs, effective September 7, 2026.
The appointment forms part of two internal executive changes announced by the telecommunications group as it strengthens its leadership structure and advances its Ambition 2030 strategy.
Ikeme’s move from MTN Nigeria to the group level will see him take on a broader role overseeing regulatory affairs across MTN’s markets. His responsibilities will include supporting the company’s engagement with regulators and policymakers across its operating footprint.
With more than three decades of professional experience spanning telecommunications, banking and insurance, Ikeme brings extensive expertise in regulatory affairs, public policy, compliance and stakeholder engagement.
The appointment comes at a time when regulatory issues are becoming increasingly important to telecom operators as their businesses expand beyond traditional connectivity into areas such as fintech, digital services, data infrastructure and emerging technologies.
For MTN, stronger regulatory leadership will be important as the group pursues its Ambition 2030 objectives across multiple African markets and navigates increasingly complex regulatory environments.
Ikeme’s appointment therefore represents not only a leadership transition but also a strategic move to strengthen MTN Group’s regulatory capacity as it expands its digital and financial services ambitions.
