Flutterwave Names Morounke Olufemi Global CFO as Mitesh Popat Steps Down

Flutterwave has appointed Morounke Olufemi as its new Global Chief Financial Officer, marking a leadership transition at the African payments company as it enters its next phase of growth.

Olufemi, who previously served as Flutterwave’s Chief Financial Officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), succeeds Mitesh Popat, who is stepping down from the global CFO role to pursue a new venture.

The transition represents an internal elevation for Olufemi, who joined Flutterwave in June 2025 and has overseen financial operations across more than 30 countries in the EMEA region. During that period, she worked closely with Popat on the company’s financial strategy.

Olufemi brings more than 24 years of experience across finance, strategy and banking. Before joining Flutterwave, she served as Group CFO of Access Holdings Plc, where she was involved in major capital-raising and corporate transactions.

During her time at Access Holdings, she helped lead the raising of $300 million in Additional Tier 1 capital in 2023 and a rights issuance programme in 2024 aimed at supporting the recapitalisation of the group’s banking operations in line with Central Bank of Nigeria requirements. She also played a role in major M&A transactions that contributed to the creation of Nigeria’s second-largest pension fund administrator.

Flutterwave said the leadership change will not alter its broader strategic direction. The company plans to maintain its focus on capital discipline, margin growth and sustainable profitability as it expands its financial infrastructure across global markets.

For Olufemi, the immediate priorities include strengthening the company’s financial trajectory while giving global finance teams greater control over working capital, multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin settlement.

“I am excited to step into the global CFO role,” Olufemi said, adding that the company would continue focusing on capital discipline, margin growth and sustainable profitability.

Popat, who served as Flutterwave’s global CFO for the past two years, is leaving the day-to-day executive role to co-found a new venture. Flutterwave said it supports his decision and that he will continue to be associated with the company as it moves forward.

The appointment comes as Flutterwave continues expanding beyond traditional payments infrastructure, with ambitions around cross-border payments, financial services and digital-asset-enabled settlement. The company has also strengthened its ecosystem through strategic investments, including its acquisition of open-banking company Mono.

With Olufemi moving from regional CFO to the global finance seat, Flutterwave is placing its next stage of financial leadership in the hands of an executive already familiar with its operations, strategy and expansion across multiple markets.
