Deloitte has appointed Olajumoke Agbetanmije as its Sustainability Officer in Nigeria, strengthening the firm’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) leadership as sustainability increasingly becomes central to business growth and corporate accountability across Africa.
The appointment highlights Deloitte’s broader strategy of integrating sustainability into business operations, client advisory services, and long-term corporate transformation initiatives.
Deloitte’s Growing Focus on Sustainability
Deloitte is one of the world’s largest professional services firms, providing audit, consulting, tax, advisory, and risk management services to businesses, governments, and multinational organisations across several markets globally.
Operating through its global network of member firms under Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL), the company has increasingly positioned sustainability and ESG advisory as a major focus area as organisations face growing pressure from investors, regulators, and consumers to adopt responsible business practices.
The firm’s mission is centred on helping clients become leaders in their industries while driving measurable impact through innovation, integrity, and strategic transformation. In recent years, Deloitte has expanded its sustainability-focused operations globally, helping organisations develop climate strategies, improve ESG reporting, strengthen governance structures, and align with global sustainability standards.
Industry analysts say the appointment of a dedicated sustainability officer in Nigeria reflects the increasing importance of ESG implementation within Africa’s corporate sector, particularly as businesses adapt to changing environmental regulations and investor expectations.
Who is Olajumoke Agbetanmije?
Agbetanmije is a sustainability advocate with experience spanning corporate administration, human capital development, ESG strategy, recycling initiatives, and organisational transformation.
Her career began in administration and human resources, where she developed expertise in people management, organisational performance, and cross-cultural collaboration before transitioning into sustainability-focused roles.
She describes her professional philosophy as one driven by integrity, collaboration, and impact. “My passion for building responsible businesses led me to specialise in ESG, sustainability strategy, and recycling initiatives,” she said.
“From supporting human capital development as a learning & development analyst to now shaping corporate sustainability efforts, I bring a unique balance of people-centred leadership and data-driven impact.” Her long-term commitment is focused on creating solutions that empower organisations, strengthen communities, and protect the environment for future generations.
Experience That Positioned Her for the Role
Before joining Deloitte Nigeria, Agbetanmije built her sustainability and corporate experience at Seven Up Bottling Company, where she held multiple roles over a three-year period. She most recently served as Sustainability Specialist between February 2026 and March 2026 after previously working as Sustainability Analyst from May 2024 to February 2026.
In those positions, she led ESG data collection and reporting initiatives aimed at ensuring compliance with international sustainability standards and frameworks. She also supported recycling and circular economy initiatives designed to reduce waste and promote environmentally responsible operational practices within the company. Her responsibilities further included coordinating sustainability week campaigns, environmental awareness programmes, and employee engagement initiatives focused on green practices and workplace sustainability.
Agbetanmije also worked closely with different business units to align sustainability goals with wider corporate strategy, helping drive long-term value creation and operational impact.
Prior to her transition into sustainability leadership, she served as a learning and development analyst between August 2023 and May 2024, where she designed and delivered employee training programmes aimed at improving workforce performance and organisational development. She streamlined onboarding and knowledge-sharing processes while collaborating with cross-functional teams to align talent development initiatives with broader company objectives.
Her early corporate experience began as a People and Culture Management Trainee from February 2023 to July 2023, where she rotated across departments to gain exposure to business operations, sustainability projects, administration, and HR functions.
This blend of sustainability expertise, people management experience, and operational exposure likely positioned her as a strong candidate for Deloitte’s sustainability leadership role in Nigeria.
What the Appointment Means Going Forward
Agbetanmije’s appointment comes at a time when Nigerian businesses are facing increasing pressure to improve ESG disclosures, strengthen climate accountability, and adopt more sustainable operational models.
Her experience in ESG reporting, sustainability strategy, employee engagement, and recycling initiatives could support Deloitte Nigeria’s efforts to deepen its sustainability advisory capabilities and help clients navigate evolving regulatory and environmental expectations. While her people-focused leadership background may also play a key role in helping organisations integrate sustainability into workplace culture and long-term business planning rather than treating ESG solely as a compliance requirement.
Going forward, Deloitte is expected to continue expanding its sustainability and ESG-focused services across Nigeria and the wider African market, particularly in areas such as climate risk advisory, sustainability reporting, circular economy strategy, and corporate governance transformation.
For Agbetanmije, the new role represents an opportunity to contribute to broader conversations around responsible business growth while helping organisations build sustainable systems that balance profitability, social impact, and environmental responsibility.
Deloitte continues to position sustainability as a strategic priority globally as businesses increasingly transition toward ESG-driven operations and long-term value creation.
