NITDA Rallies Industry and Academia Behind Nigeria’s Digital Transformation Roadmap

At a stakeholder session in Lagos, the agency reviewed progress on its eight strategic pillars and gathered input on infrastructure, talent and cybersecurity

Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has renewed its pledge to speed up the country’s digital transformation, with a focus on public-private partnerships, closer ties with universities and sustainable innovation.

The commitment was restated at a high-level stakeholder engagement hosted by Lagos Business School. Dr. Aristotle Onumo, Director of NITDA’s Special Duties Directorate, represented Director-General Kashifu Inuwa. Onumo argued that comprehensive digital transformation cannot be delivered by government alone and depends on sustained collaboration between industry leaders, academic institutions and policymakers. He also thanked Lagos Business School and the participating organisations for helping shape and implement the agency’s strategic roadmap.

A roadmap built on consultation

The roadmap emerged from extensive national consultations and is meant to guide the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy while keeping pace with shifts in the global technology landscape. NITDA said continuous engagement with stakeholders is essential for measuring progress, refining priorities and making sure government interventions match what the market needs.

The agency also described a broader role for itself as an ecosystem platform for digital innovation. Through a collaborative approach, it says it aims to improve digital service delivery, shape regulatory frameworks and support the growth of tech startups.

What was on the table

The session reviewed progress across NITDA’s eight strategic pillars. Discussions centred on digital literacy, balanced regulation, digital infrastructure, local entrepreneurship and implementation of the Nigeria Startup Act.

Participants then split into working sessions around five themes: infrastructure, innovation, talent, governance and cybersecurity. The sessions gave industry experts and other stakeholders a chance to flag obstacles, share insights and propose practical steps to speed up delivery of the national digital agenda.

About NITDA: The agency is the Nigerian federal body responsible for developing, regulating and coordinating the country’s information technology sector.
