MTN Foundation equips Nigerian educators with AI skills for modern classroom teaching.

The MTN Foundation is strengthening digital education in Nigeria through a 12-week training programme designed to help educators integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into teaching, learning and school administration.

Delivered in partnership with the Senator Abiru Innovation Lab (SAIL) and Co-Creation Hub (CcHub), the programme is currently in its 10th week and is equipping teachers, lecturers, school administrators, counsellors and tutors with practical AI skills for the modern classroom.

The initiative aims to improve education outcomes by helping educators leverage AI-powered tools for lesson planning, student assessments, content creation and administrative tasks while promoting responsible and ethical use of emerging technologies.

During a recent virtual session, data scientist and business analyst Oluwatobi Olayanju introduced participants to a range of AI-powered tools, including chatbots for lesson planning, visual design platforms, text-to-video and text-to-audio generators, and automated assessment tools. He also highlighted ditchthattextbook.com as a resource hub where educators can discover and implement digital teaching solutions.

Participants also took part in interactive quizzes designed to assess their understanding of AI concepts and measure progress throughout the programme.

According to the programme organisers, the initiative is helping educators improve productivity, enhance classroom engagement and adopt innovative teaching methods that better prepare students for a technology-driven future.

The training comes as Nigeria continues to address challenges in its education sector, including limited digital literacy among teachers and the need for stronger technology integration in classrooms.

By equipping educators with AI skills, the MTN Foundation hopes to support Nigeria’s broader education transformation agenda while preparing teachers to deliver more engaging, efficient and future-ready learning experiences.
