Terra Industries has led a $1 million seed investment in Aeon, a Nigerian cybersecurity startup building tools to strengthen digital defence across Africa and the Global South.
The investment also includes participation from Olugbenga Agboola, co-founder and CEO of Flutterwave, through his venture fund, Resilience17.
The deal builds on a pilot project between Terra Industries and Aeon earlier this year and is expected to deepen their collaboration around cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection.
Building a stronger cybersecurity layer
Aeon develops cybersecurity solutions designed to help organisations identify vulnerabilities across their code, cloud environments and endpoints.
Its products, Aeon Edge and Aeon Console, are built for organisations operating in high-risk environments, including financial institutions, cloud service providers and critical infrastructure operators.
The startup was founded by Samuel Ogbonyomi, Ben Eluan and Alex Idowu.
According to the company, Aeon aims to address a common challenge facing organisations: managing multiple security tools without having a unified view of their digital vulnerabilities.
Terra expands from physical to digital security
The investment also expands Terra Industries’ security offering beyond physical infrastructure.
Founded in 2024, Terra develops autonomous security systems for land, air and maritime environments. The company recently expanded into commercial infrastructure, including mining operations in Nigeria.
The partnership with Aeon combines the two companies’ capabilities, with Terra focused on physical security while Aeon provides digital and cybersecurity solutions.
The companies have also established a commercial joint venture that will deploy Aeon’s technology across military and commercial operations and pursue opportunities with governments and corporations across the Global South.
For Terra, the partnership adds cybersecurity capabilities to its existing physical security solutions. For Aeon, it provides access to Terra’s relationships across critical infrastructure and defence.
Why the investment matters
As businesses and critical infrastructure become increasingly dependent on digital systems, cybersecurity is becoming closely connected to physical security.
The partnership reflects this convergence, with both companies looking to provide broader protection for organisations whose operations depend on both physical assets and digital infrastructure.
With the new investment, Aeon plans to further develop its cybersecurity capabilities and expand its role in protecting digital infrastructure across emerging markets.
