Luno Surpasses 50,000 xStocks Users as Tokenized Investing Gains Momentum in South Africa

Cryptocurrency and digital investment platform Luno has announced that more than 50,000 South Africans have now invested in xStocks, signaling growing interest in tokenized investment products and broader access to global financial markets.

The milestone highlights the rapid adoption of tokenized stocks in South Africa following Luno’s launch of the offering in 2025. Through xStocks, users can gain exposure to major international companies and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) using blockchain-based tokens that mirror the performance of underlying assets.

According to data shared by Luno, technology stocks have emerged as clear favorites among investors. Nvidia has attracted the highest level of interest, while other popular holdings include Meta, Apple, and the S&P 500 ETF.

Luno introduced tokenized stocks to remove many of the barriers traditionally associated with international investing, including foreign exchange requirements, high entry costs, and lengthy settlement processes. The platform allows users to invest in fractional shares using South African rand, making global investment opportunities more accessible to retail investors.

The strong uptake reflects a broader trend toward digital-first investing solutions across Africa. Industry observers note that tokenization is increasingly being viewed as a tool for expanding financial inclusion by lowering the costs and complexities of accessing global markets.

As interest in digital assets and alternative investment products continues to grow, Luno’s latest user milestone underscores the increasing acceptance of tokenized finance among South African investors and signals the potential for wider adoption across the continent.
