Kenya has taken a major step toward modernizing its tourism sector through a strategic partnership with Google aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to attract more visitors, improve traveler experiences, and strengthen data-driven decision-making.
The partnership, announced by Kenya’s Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife through the Magical Kenya platform, seeks to position the country as Africa’s leading AI-enabled tourism destination. The initiative aligns with recommendations from the Kenya Tourism Rebranding and Repositioning Taskforce and forms part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda.
At the heart of the collaboration is the development of a Tourism Pulse Data Hub on Google Cloud. The platform will provide real-time insights from global search trends and tourism sentiment data, enabling policymakers and industry stakeholders to respond more effectively to changing traveler preferences and market conditions.
The partnership will also introduce an AI-powered trip planning tool built on Google’s Gemini models. The solution is designed to create personalized travel itineraries based on individual interests and preferences, offering visitors a more tailored experience while showcasing Kenya’s diverse tourism offerings.
Beyond marketing and visitor engagement, the initiative includes digital skills development programs targeting young people and small tourism enterprises. Google will support training efforts aimed at equipping participants with digital and AI-related skills while enabling local creators to develop tourism experiences using Google Arts & Culture resources.
To increase Kenya’s visibility in key international markets, the collaboration will utilize Google Analytics and Google Ads to deliver targeted tourism campaigns to prospective travelers at critical stages of their travel planning journey.
Speaking on the partnership, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the initiative represents a shift from traditional destination marketing toward a more sophisticated digital infrastructure capable of driving growth and enhancing Kenya’s global competitiveness. Google Sub-Saharan Africa Managing Director Alex Okosi noted that the partnership will help empower tourism businesses and create new economic opportunities through AI and digital innovation.
The move comes as destinations worldwide increasingly adopt AI, predictive analytics, and personalized marketing tools to attract travelers and improve tourism management. Through this collaboration, Kenya aims to strengthen its position as one of Africa’s most innovative tourism destinations while unlocking new opportunities for economic growth and job creation.
