Legend Internet–Spectranet Merger Set to Reshape Nigeria’s Broadband Market by 2026.

Legend Internet Plc is moving to consolidate its position in Nigeria’s fast-evolving internet market with a planned merger with Spectranet Limited, a deal expected to close by the second quarter of 2026.

The proposed transaction, disclosed in a filing with the Nigerian Exchange Limited, signals a strategic push to deepen broadband penetration while strengthening fibre and wireless infrastructure across key urban centers. Both companies have secured internal approvals, with board and shareholder resolutions completed in late 2025.

At its core, the merger reflects a broader industry trend toward consolidation, as internet service providers seek scale to address rising data demand, infrastructure costs, and competitive pressures. By combining operational capabilities, Legend aims to unlock efficiencies and extend network reach in a market where reliable, high-speed connectivity remains uneven.

Chief Executive Officer Aisha Abdulaz framed the deal as a long-term value play, with expectations that the combined entity will deliver stronger earnings and improved service delivery. The integration is also positioned to enhance capacity across both fibre and wireless networks, an increasingly critical factor as Nigeria’s digital economy expands.

The companies noted that the transaction is expected to be accretive to shareholders over the medium to long term, while also creating a more competitive platform within the broadband ecosystem. For investors, the merger underscores growing confidence in Nigeria’s internet infrastructure segment, even amid regulatory and operational complexities.

Completion of the deal remains subject to approvals from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission and the Nigerian Communications Commission, both of which play critical roles in overseeing market competition and industry standards.

Once finalized, operations of both firms will be unified under a single corporate structure, with further details on integration and strategy expected in the coming months. The outcome could mark a pivotal shift in Nigeria’s broadband landscape, where scale, infrastructure depth, and service quality increasingly define market leadership.
