NEC Africa has appointed Phillip Nganga as its Regional Manager for East Africa, placing him in charge of the company’s performance, growth and long-term expansion across the region.
Nganga brings nearly 15 years of experience with NEC, having joined the company in May 2012. His appointment comes as NEC Africa seeks to strengthen local leadership and expand its presence across one of the continent’s fastest-growing technology markets.
In his new role, Nganga says the company will focus on expanding its customer base, strengthening partnerships, and broadening its technology solutions. He also highlighted the importance of understanding customers’ businesses and future needs before recommending technology solutions.
The strategy comes amid growing demand across East Africa for digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise technology, and energy solutions. Governments, financial institutions, telecommunications companies and businesses in sectors such as manufacturing and oil and gas are increasingly investing in technology to support digital transformation and economic growth.
Nganga identified Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Rwanda as markets with significant opportunities for deeper engagement. NEC Africa also plans to strengthen its local workforce and partner network across the region.
The appointment also reflects NEC Africa’s emphasis on developing African leadership. Gary Munro, NEC Africa’s Vice-President for African Operations, said the company wants to build an African business driven by local knowledge and leadership rather than relying on externally appointed management.
The leadership change follows William Hunter’s move into a Chief Operating Officer role, where his technical and project management experience is expected to support NEC Africa’s delivery capabilities as the company prepares for a major project in East Africa.
For Nganga, the broader ambition is to make NEC Africa a partner of choice across East Africa, combining NEC’s global technology capabilities with stronger local engagement and a wider portfolio of solutions.
