Pan-African fintech Moment has raised $22 million in Series A funding to accelerate its mission of solving one of Africa’s biggest fintech challenges fragmented payment systems.
The investment, led by AlphaCode Venture Partners, brings the company’s total funding to $55 million since its launch just three years ago. Existing investors General Catalyst and MultiChoice participated in the round, alongside Canal+, which recently completed its acquisition of MultiChoice.
Building the infrastructure behind Africa’s digital economy
Moment provides payment infrastructure that enables businesses to accept and manage payments across multiple African markets through a single platform.
The company currently processes over 600,000 transactions daily, serves approximately 10 million users every month, and supports payments through more than 2 million physical acceptance points across the continent.
Its platform allows businesses to accept bank transfers, cards, mobile money, wallets, and other local payment methods without managing multiple integrations in each country.
Tackling Africa’s fragmented payments landscape
Unlike many global markets, Africa operates through multiple payment ecosystems that vary by country.
Nigeria relies heavily on instant bank transfers, East Africa is dominated by mobile money, while South Africa remains largely card- and bank-driven.
This fragmentation creates operational challenges for businesses expanding across borders.
Moment aims to eliminate this complexity by providing a unified payment infrastructure that works across different markets while remaining resilient during network outages and power disruptions.
Why Canal+’s investment matters
Canal+’s participation highlights the growing convergence between media and financial technology.
As the owner of MultiChoice, Canal+ now has a direct investment in the payment infrastructure supporting subscriptions and digital payments across its entertainment platforms.
The move reflects a broader trend of companies investing in payment technology to strengthen customer experiences and improve revenue collection.
The fresh capital will be used to expand Moment’s payment network, enhance its technology platform, and support growth into additional African markets.
As digital commerce continues to accelerate across the continent, payment infrastructure providers like Moment are becoming critical enablers of cross-border business and financial inclusion.
