Bonke Michael Appointed Acting Managing Director of Airtel Money Kenya

Airtel Money Kenya has appointed Bonke Michael as its Acting Managing Director, entrusting the long-serving executive with leading the company’s mobile financial services business during a leadership transition.

Michael brings more than 15 years of experience in telecommunications and fintech, having spent over a decade within Airtel in senior roles spanning sales, business development, marketing, and mobile money. Throughout his tenure, he has helped drive customer acquisition, digital adoption, revenue growth, and strategic partnerships with banks, fintech firms, merchants, regulators, and payment networks.

Announcing the appointment, Michael expressed gratitude for the opportunity and emphasized his commitment to sustaining the company’s growth trajectory while delivering value to customers, partners, and stakeholders.

His appointment follows the departure of Anne Kinuthia-Otieno and comes at a pivotal time for Airtel Money Kenya, which has strengthened its position in the country’s competitive mobile money market. Under the previous leadership, the business expanded its market presence, improved financial performance, and broadened its network of merchants and financial partners.

As Acting Managing Director, Michael is expected to oversee Airtel Money Kenya’s operations while advancing the company’s digital financial services strategy, strengthening financial inclusion initiatives, and maintaining growth momentum in one of Africa’s most dynamic mobile money markets.
