Standard Bank backs Optasia with $330 million to drive fintech expansion

Standard Bank Group has backed Optasia with a $330 million financing facility aimed at accelerating the fintech firm’s global expansion and strengthening financial inclusion across emerging markets.

The funding will support Optasia’s growth across key regions, enabling the company to scale its AI-driven micro-lending and digital financial services platform. Optasia partners with mobile network operators and financial institutions to deliver credit, airtime advances, and other embedded finance solutions to underserved populations.

Optasia’s model leverages artificial intelligence and data analytics to assess creditworthiness in real time, allowing millions of unbanked and underbanked users to access financial services. The company already operates across dozens of markets globally, with a strong footprint in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

The new financing builds on a long-standing relationship between the two firms, with Standard Bank Group previously supporting Optasia through multiple funding rounds and strategic partnerships aimed at scaling its operations and innovation capacity.

The deal highlights growing investor confidence in Africa’s fintech sector, particularly in platforms focused on financial inclusion and digital lending. With access to fresh capital, Optasia is expected to deepen its market reach, expand product offerings, and enhance its technology infrastructure.
