Nigerian Breweries Plc has kicked off its 80th anniversary celebrations with a nationwide campaign inviting Nigerians to share the memories they have created around the company, its brands and its wider impact over the past eight decades.
Tagged “Together, Every Moment,” the campaign is designed to put Nigerians at the centre of the company’s 80-year story, rather than simply celebrating the milestone through corporate history.
Through its National Story Collection, Nigerian Breweries is asking people at home and abroad to search their photo albums, family archives and phone galleries for photographs, videos and stories connected to the company.
The memories could range from weddings, graduations, football celebrations and family gatherings to stories involving farmers, retailers, distributors, suppliers, entrepreneurs, employees and communities.
80 Nigerians to receive ₦1 million each
As part of the campaign, 80 memories will be selected, with each selected contributor receiving ₦1 million, alongside other prizes.
The company also plans to feature selected stories across films, editorial features, social media content, outdoor displays, anniversary experiences and its commemorative archive.
According to Nigerian Breweries, the initiative is intended to build a living archive documenting the people, businesses, communities and experiences that have intersected with the company since its incorporation in 1946.
Eight decades of shared moments
Nigerian Breweries’ history stretches back to 1946, when Nigerian Brewery Limited was incorporated in Lagos. In 1949, the first locally brewed bottle of STAR Lager rolled off its bottling line in Iganmu.
Over the years, the company has expanded its portfolio and footprint, with brands including Heineken, STAR, Maltina, Gulder, Legend, Life, Amstel Malta and Fayrouz, among others. Today, the company says its portfolio comprises 19 brands produced across nine breweries and two malting plants.
But for its 80th anniversary, the brewer is shifting the focus from its corporate milestones to the everyday moments Nigerians associate with its brands and operations.
Thibaut Boidin, Managing Director and CEO of Nigerian Breweries, said the company’s history has been shaped not only by its brands but also by the farmers, entrepreneurs, retailers, distributors, suppliers, employees and communities connected to its business.
The company said participation in the National Story Collection is free, with eligible Nigerians invited to submit their stories through its anniversary platform or social media using #NigerianBreweriesAt80 and #NBAt80.
With the campaign, Nigerian Breweries is turning an 80-year corporate milestone into a national storytelling exercise — asking Nigerians to look through their archives and find the moments that have become part of the country’s shared journey.
