MTN Uganda has launched MTNTV, a new digital entertainment platform designed to bring television, radio, movies, sports and other content together on a single platform.
The service, developed in partnership with Afromobile, represents MTN Uganda’s latest move to expand beyond traditional telecommunications and deepen its presence in the country’s growing digital economy.
MTNTV is also designed to create opportunities for local content producers. Filmmakers, musicians, educators, broadcasters and other creators will have another platform through which they can distribute their work and reach wider audiences.
MTN Uganda CEO Sylvia Mulinge said the platform reflects a shift from simply consuming digital content to participating in the digital economy, giving Ugandans opportunities to create, share and potentially monetise their work.
The launch comes as telecom operators across Africa increasingly expand into digital services, using their networks and large customer bases to offer entertainment, financial services and other digital products.
For MTN Uganda, MTNTV strengthens its digital-services portfolio while giving the company a greater role in Uganda’s evolving entertainment and creative economy.
For local creators, the bigger opportunity could be access: a telecom-backed platform can provide another route for African stories and entertainment to reach audiences at scale.
