MTN Opens 2026 Technology Hackathon to African Innovators

MTN Group has opened its 2026 Technology Hackathon to employees and external innovators, inviting participants to develop technology solutions across artificial intelligence (AI), AI-powered radio access networks (AI-RAN), financial technology and digital infrastructure.

The initiative forms part of MTN’s Ambition 2030 strategy, which aims to translate technological innovation into practical solutions that address challenges and create opportunities across Africa.

Participants will work alongside industry experts and partners to develop their ideas into proof-of-concept projects or minimum viable products (MVPs), moving beyond early-stage concepts towards solutions that can be tested in real-world settings.

According to MTN Group Chief Technology and Information Officer Charles Molapisi, the initiative is intended to encourage solutions that expand connectivity, reach underserved communities and unlock Africa’s potential.

The hackathon reflects the growing importance of technology-driven innovation in addressing the continent’s digital infrastructure and financial inclusion challenges.

MTN said entries close on October 12, 2026, with the initiative designed to bring together internal talent and external innovators to explore solutions across key technology sectors.
