Samsung has expanded its digital payment offering in South Africa with the introduction of Scan to Pay, a QR code payment feature integrated directly into Samsung Wallet.
The feature, provided by EFT Corp, allows Samsung Galaxy users to make payments by scanning QR codes at participating merchants rather than relying on physical bank cards. Users can simply open Samsung Wallet, scan a payment QR code, authenticate the transaction and complete their purchase.
The new functionality is designed for both physical stores and online transactions, reflecting the continued expansion of digital and mobile-based payment options across South Africa.
According to Samsung, Scan to Pay is intended to reduce friction during everyday transactions by simplifying the checkout process. The integration also connects Samsung Wallet users to an existing QR payment infrastructure in the country.
The development highlights the growing importance of digital wallets in Africa’s evolving payments ecosystem. As consumers increasingly seek faster and more convenient alternatives to cash and physical cards, mobile devices are becoming central to how everyday financial transactions are conducted.
For Samsung, the move represents another step in expanding the functionality of its digital wallet beyond traditional card-based payments. For South Africa’s broader fintech ecosystem, it reinforces the growing role of QR technology in making digital payments more accessible across different merchant environments.
