Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has once again affirmed Lagos State’s leading role as Nigeria’s digital innovation hub, pledging continued support for initiatives that promote creativity, technology, and responsible media use. The governor made this known during a recent courtesy visit by the Bodex Social Media Hangout (BSMH) team at the Lagos State Government House, ahead of the event’s highly anticipated sixth edition. The Bodex Social Media Hangout, now in its sixth year, has become one of Nigeria’s most influential platforms for dialogue around media responsibility, technology, and youth empowerment. This year’s theme, “Social Media and A.I Influence: Transforming Yourself, Services, and the Society,” reflects the growing relevance of artificial intelligence and digital transformation in shaping both individuals and institutions across Nigeria. Governor Sanwo-Olu, who has consistently championed technology-driven governance, described Lagos as the “heartbeat of innovation and creativity”—a state that continues to set the pace in digital inclusion and public engagement. He emphasized his administration’s unwavering dedication to nurturing homegrown talent and supporting platforms that amplify voices, shape narratives, and promote responsible social media engagement.
Lagos at the Forefront of Digital Governance
During the meeting, the BSMH team expressed deep appreciation to the governor for his ongoing support for media innovation and youth-focused programs in Lagos. Bodex Hungbo, the convener of the Bodex Social Media Hangout, highlighted that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s forward-thinking digital policies and open engagement with citizens have positioned Lagos as a model for technology-led governance and inclusive media participation across Africa. “Under the governor’s leadership, Lagos has not only embraced technology as a tool for efficiency but has also empowered young Nigerians to use digital platforms responsibly and creatively,” Hungbo said. The visit also featured the formal presentation of an invitation to Governor Sanwo-Olu to attend BSMH 6.0 as the keynote speaker during the grand finale and the prestigious Grand Patron Award Ceremony. The upcoming event will bring together social media influencers, tech professionals, and policymakers to discuss how digital transformation and AI are reshaping Nigeria’s creative and communication landscape.
Recognizing a Visionary Leader in Tech and Media
In recognition of his visionary leadership and commitment to digital innovation, the governor was officially named the Grand Patron of the Bodex Social Media Hangout Initiative. He was also announced as the recipient of the “Most Digital Media Friendly Governor of the Year” award, celebrating his administration’s use of technology to foster transparency, citizen engagement, and participatory governance. Accepting the honour, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the BSMH team for their dedication to promoting media literacy and using social platforms for social good. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting projects that strengthen digital education, responsible online behavior, and youth empowerment across Lagos State. As Lagos continues to attract global recognition for its tech-driven growth and innovative spirit, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s partnership with initiatives like Bodex Social Media Hangout reaffirms his administration’s belief that the future of Lagos—and Nigeria—is digital.
